Q: Why Street Soccer?
A: Golazo believes that every player was Born to Score. Washington Youth Soccer could not agree more! That’s why we have teamed up to create an event that will showcase every player’s ability to score MUCHOS GOLAZOS! The beauty of street soccer is that players must think and act more quickly than on a standard soccer field. At the Golazo Street Soccer Cup, players are encouraged to demonstrate their skills in tight spaces in front of an intimate (and hopefully ENERGETIC) crowd.
Q: The proceeds are benefiting Soccer for Success? What is Soccer for Success?
A: Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s innovative youth development program that uses soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles for children in low-income urban communities. The Soccer for Success program provides each school three 90 minute after-school sessions for two twelve-week seasons. Through the Social Innovation Fund and U.S. Soccer Foundation, Washington Youth Soccer will provide this after-school program to 15 elementary schools throughout Highline, Tukwila, Kent and Auburn School Districts.
Q: What format is the tournament and how many games will we play?
A: Three games are guaranteed. The number of rounds necessary will be determined by the number of participating teams.
Q: Are there prizes for the participants?
A: Thanks to the title sponsor, Golazo will provide a case of their hydration drinks to fuel the players. A goody bag that includes a will be given to every player. Every team has the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to to the Sounders vs Chicago Fire match at 7:00 pm that night. Champions in each gender age group will receive free tickets to the match.
Q: Are there prizes for the winners?
A: Absolutely! The winning team in each division will receive a trophy. We will also have some other gifts for the winning team our sponsors have graciously donated. All participants will have the opportunity to join the Sounders FC fans in the famed “March to the Match.”
Q: Who are these sponsors of Washington Youth Soccer?
A: The title sponsor is Golazo. We also would like to recognize adidas, Virginia Mason Team Medicine, Chipotle, Sports Authority, Schmetzer’s Sporthaus, Starfire Sports, Embassy Suites, Seattle Sounders FC, Northwest Trophy, and Skyhawks Sports Academy. For more information about any of our sponsors check out our partners page on the website.
Q: What do we need to bring?
A: We recommend playing in either tennis shoes or indoor soccer shoes. Shin guards are required. Please attempt to wear similar colors. Bring water! We’ll bring the Golazo!
Q: Where can we park?
A: Parking can be tricky in this area. There are a few parking garages that you may park in should you choose to. The cost of parking will not be reimbursed. Besides the garages there is street parking. Most street parking has a two hour limit. Please be mindful of the parking restrictions. You can also take the light rail (exit Pioneer Square station).
